Safety of loading bays: Genesi for Buzzi SpA
Products:
ALUXRAIL
Loading bays represent key points within production contexts, where operations with a high logistics intensity are concentrated. The interface between plant and means of transport takes place in these areas: dynamic zones that require targeted and appropriate safety measures.
In cement plants, such as Buzzi SpA, tankers and heavy vehicles transit daily, often requiring manual intervention at height, such as the opening of top hatches.
This combination of heavy handling, work at height and complex environmental conditions makes the loading bays high risk areas for falls.
Critical issues in loading bays
Loading bays present several critical operational issues, including:
- Slippery or irregular surfaces
- Access at heights for loading and unloading operations
- Height differences between the quay and the vehicle
- Continuous heavy vehicle traffic
The absence of an effective fall arrest system exposes drivers and operators to a real risk of falls at height, with an even greater level of danger in adverse weather conditions (rain, frost, fine dust, etc.).
From here comes the need for a tailor-made safety intervention.

Intervention plan in loading bays
The approach adopted by Genesi Protection consisted of three main steps:
1. Risk assessment
An in-depth technical analysis made it possible to precisely identify the critical areas, taking into account day-to-day operations.
2. Installation of safety systems
Genesi Protection installed the Alux Rail for each loading bay. A Type D anchor device that complies with regulations EN 795:2012 Type D, CEN/TS 16415:2013 and UNI 11578:2015. Designed to provide maximum protection for up to 4 operators.
Among the strengths of the system:
- Continuous protection on curved paths: equipped with 90° or 135° curves, it adapts perfectly to the geometry of the area without interruption.
- Smooth operator movement: the XR10 trolley, with its rolling bearings wheels, allows freedom of movement and ease of use.
- High durability: made of aluminium with anodized finish, it offers a perfect balance of lightness, corrosion resistance and mechanical strength.
3. Updating operational procedures
The intervention was completed with the introduction of visual signage and revised procedures. The aim was to increase awareness and culture of safety at work.

The result: increased security and awareness
The intervention had a concrete impact on several levels:
- Increased operational safety for drivers and operators during loading and unloading.
- Reducing the risk of accidental falls by installing appropriate safety devices.
- Guaranteed regulatory compliance, thus relieving the Employer of responsibility.
Each loading bay has its own specific characteristics and criticalities. However, with a tailor-made approach, it is possible to transform even the most complex areas into safe work spaces.
The collaboration between Genesi Protection and Buzzi SpA demonstrates how a well-designed intervention, maintained over time, can make the difference.
